About Us

About us

Legacy Centre of Excellence, opened in September 2019, is Europe’s largest independent Black-owned Business and Arts Centre, which facilitates the need of the local community through the arts, jobs, training and education.

Working to raise the aspirations of the local and the wider BAME community, we pride ourselves on being pioneers

of black excellence through creative engagement and business ventures. With partners including Birmingham City Council, Arts Council England and Metro Mayor himself Andy Street CBE, we have built up a strong rapport within our neighbourhood and beyond.

Legacy COE exists to offer great cultural, artistic, economic, youth, educational and business development related activities that uplift and upskill particularly the next generation. We do this by providing the best in events, event space, accessible and affordable workspace workshops and projects that encourage people to come together in a safe curated space, which puts their individual and collective needs at the heart.

Our Team

Our team is made up committed professionals, experienced in arts, event management, community development, business development and project management.

We are committed to the training and developing the next generation of front of house, management and technical staff in the arts and business.

Local, National and International

We are an organisation rooted in one of Birmingham’s most diverse and marginalised communities and we are committed to aiding the development of our local socio-economic ecology/community. However, we have a national profile and partnerships and an international audience.

We have a program to develop excellence within the local ecology in arts, business and economics, culture, youth development, STEM and education.

We are keen to work with organisations who share the same objectives and have synergy with our values.

Live Music

The Legacy Centre of Excellence has been re-established as a venue for world class local and international live music across genres and cultural events, and now includes a state-of-the-art recording studio facility on site.

Theatre, Performance and Exhibition Spaces

Legacy has a number of flexible spaces for theatre performances, rehearsals, exhibitions and shows. We have high speed streaming/videography facilities for you to stream your event live and globally.

Our mission is to re-shape the idea of what is possible for passionate and resilient community innovators, through leaders and dreamers. This project was once a small collective idea by members of our community and has now evolved into a sustainable change-making Business and Arts Centre that will continue to transform lives for years to come.

Formerly named the Drum Arts Centre, Legacy was purchased in May 2019 by 7E Youth Academy, a Birmingham based Social Enterprise founded by Keith ‘Cipher’ Shayaam-Smith.

Initially with no Government aid and only the funding of the volunteers, the venue was then transformed into a state-of-the-art multipurpose building spanning across 2 floors. It now comes complete with a: refurbished live music theatre with 400 seats, 2 auditoriums with 1000 capacity each, 11 new rented offices, a co-working hub, events space, fully equipped multimedia suites, a café, 2 bars and a restaurant.

The Legacy Centre acts like a beacon of light and brings opportunities into the community. It will feature the brand new, North West Birmingham Business Hub which will promote entrepreneurship and offer business and professional training. Young people, community groups and local businesses will also have access to a co-working space, conference rooms, event auditoriums to hire, and low cost rented business offices.
